Sleeper is a control panel for desktop Macintoshes and Power Macintoshes that dims the screen and spins down SCSI disk drives after periods of inactivity. These features can save energy, reduce noise levels in your work area, and decrease wear to your display and hard disk.

Sleeper has been designed to be unintrusive and as frugal with resources as possible. It does not patch the Mac OS excessively to perform its function, doesn't tie up the processor when awake or sleeping, and uses only a small amount of memory.
Installation
Sleeper will run on any Performa, Macintosh, Power Macintosh, or compatible computer running System 6.0.8 or higher. The screen dimmer requires a color-capable Macintosh, and the disk sleep feature requires a SCSI hard disk.
To install Sleeper:
1) Drag the Sleeper control panel onto your System folder icon. Answer "OK" when asked if you want it put into the Control Panels folder.
2) Restart your Macintosh.
3) Open the Control Panels folder from the Apple menu. Double-click on Sleeper and set up the dimmer and disk spin-down options as detailed in the following sections.
Sleeper supports balloon help. Simply select "Show Balloons" from the menu at the right of the menu bar to get a quick explanation about any of the buttons. A quick on-line overview is also available by clicking on the question mark icon in the upper right corner of the control panel.
